What does Black Shoe Polish Do?

My black leather shoes are %26quot;broken%26quot; or the leather is coming off and I see gray!!! Will black shoe polish fix this? I only wore the shoes two times =((.

What does Black Shoe Polish Do?
The broken areas are where the finish of the shoe is coming off. The leather finish on some shoes is not good, but it is not a fatal flaw for the shoes.

I would suggest you take the shoes to the shoe repair shop and ask that they have black shoe dye applied to the %26quot;broken%26quot; areas.

If you want to do the job yourself, Fiebings leather dye will do a good job for you. A bottle will probably cost you $8.00. I used Fiebings leather dye when I was in the Army. Crawling through sandy soil in South Carolina used to really tear up the finish on combat boots. With Fiebings, I applied the dye, let it dry, and put on 4 or 5 coats of regular Kiwi shoe polish.

Note that when the finish came off my wife%26#039;s character (dance shoes) we used Meltonian Spray dye. Magix spray dye is also good. Cost would be about $14.00.
Reply:It just temporarily covers a defect so it won%26#039;t be noticable to other people. Over time it will peel off and black shoe polish can no longer cover that area which is damaged.
Reply:I think the shoes are not of good quality and also it works with the Shoe polishes... (depending on the condition of your shoe)
Reply:It won%26#039;t fix it. It will camouflage it.

Black shoe polish is a combination of black dye and wax with a solvent.

It also helps water-proof the shoe. Water leeches out natural moisture from the leather so it cracks.

You may%26#039;ve only worn the shoes two times, but the leather may%26#039;ve been old and dry already.
