How do you make leather shine? can I use brown shoe polish on a belt and purse to restore shine?

I have a brown leather belt and a purse with brown leather straps that I want to clean and shine. Should I use Brown shoe polish? It says gloss on the shoe polish...

It would be better if you used a clear polish. The colored shoe polish will rub off on your clothes. It will be impossible to get that stain out of your clothes because of the wax in the shoe polish. You can go to a shoe repair shop and get them dyed instead then you won%26#039;t have to worry about your clothes.
Reply:household polish like pledge brings all things leather or leatherette up a treat. rubbing with orange rind also brings leather up nicely.
Reply:You will end up with transfer of the shoe polish if the belt rubs against something- like your car seat or sofa backrest.


Please avoid household polishes- you will end up witha residue on the leather the is detrimental to the leather.


Many good quality leather conditioners will impart some sort of luster- rubbing quickly with a soft cloth; burnishing to some extent can bring up a degree of sheen, but the only way to really gloss up is to apply a quality flexible leather clear coat.
