I got some scuff marks on a black leather bag. How can I fix them? Would shoe polish work? Thank you?

Hi

Please do not use shoe polish as this will come off on your clothes and is the wrong product to use on bags and could ruin it.

The type of leather you have will determine what product to use. If you have an aniline style leather (one that absorbs moisture) then you only need to apply leather protector (not a conditioner) as this will remove the scratches successfully.

If you have a coated (pigment) leather then try Easy Colour which is a product easy to apply and will just bring the colour back and will not come off on your clothes.

If the scratches are very severe you will need to use a pigment colour with a finish over the top to seal it in.

If the surface of the leather has been abraided to the point where you have little flaps or splits in the very top layer(s) you will need something with some sort of sealant properties to be able to lay the flaps down and cover over the damaged area. If the scuffs are very minor you might be able to get away with a good quality leather conditioner; preferably one that has some protectant component. Other wise you will most likely need a leather finish to resolve the damage- depending on the type of leather this may involve applying a finish to an unfinished leather. I have black rub on that we use in our restoration kits, if you think it needs this you cand contact me at http://www.DIYLeatherSolutions.com
Reply:shoe polish will work, liquid type good.
Reply:Spit and polish.
Reply:They have little kits for that at a a leather store or even use just a black sharpy and fix it with that.
