How can I remove wax polish from shoes?

I put some Cole Haan wax polish on my smooth leather shoes. The instructions state to let the polish dry, buff off with a brush, and then bring to a shine with a polishing rag. I cannot buff or polish off the wax polish. It is white and won't come off. I buff until my arm is sore. This isn't normal.

I assume that there is a mild solvent you could recommend that won't damage the shoes. Nail polish remover? Paint thinner?

I would email Cole Haan (www.colehaan.com) and see what they suggest. They know what's in their product better than the rest of us.
